Three Years!

Just over three years ago, the idea of Fit Your Life bringing specialized fitness classes to the women of Edmonton was born as a result of the desire to combine my passion, curiosity, and interest of the immense physical and emotional changes that occur during the pre- and postnatal periods and how an increased level of fitness can affect this beautiful transformation.

When I think about all that I have learned in the last three years, I smile. Welcomed advice from business-savvy friends and support from those who navigate social media with more finesse than I have made this learning curve more enjoyable!

36 months ago, Fit Your Life group fitness classes began by offering a six week pre-registered session for both Mom & Me Fit and Prenatal Fit; with four and seven participants, respectively. Since that time, 400+ women have attended classes, we have welcomed over 100 Fit Babies, and we have inspired so many to find their best self amongst the chaos that can be the early years of motherhood.

Although I had high hopes and dreams for Fit Your Life, I do not think I ever imagined the reach we would attain in our first years. I chose to take five full months off of offering classes as we welcomed our second daughter, Mikah, in Fall 2016. Fit Your Life was less than two years old and I knew this would have an effect on the business. It was incredibly important to me to enjoy that special time with her as well as be a role model for the life balance in which I constantly promote. When we slowly returned to offering classes in February 2017, Jamie jumped on board and within the first weeks our classes were full and it was like we never took a break. We were blown away! In May 2017, Erin began leading classes which opened up more opportunities for new class styles and various times! Summer 2017 was incredible! Sunshine and sweat, laughs and friendships, and best of all, we learned even more about core connection and this process post-pregnancy.

I returned to nursing after my maternity leave was finished in Fall 2017 and with the commitment of Jamie and Erin, we continued to offer classes through this transition. We secured regular space in the Queen Alex Community Hall and our community continued to grow!

Although it has been a discussion for over a year, it was only one week ago we announced Jamie officially becoming a part-owner of Fit Your Life!! This shift is truly incredible, as together we will be able to accomplish much more in providing the highest quality fitness opportunities for the women of Edmonton!

I know some of you might be wondering what is next? What have they been alluding to in their posts and stories?! Well, the time has come that we can FINALLY share our secret (trust us, it has been HARD)!!

We will be opening the very first Fit Your Life Studio in March 2018!!!!
Our mission is to create a physical space that is inclusive, supportive, and motivational for women of all stages of life - pre-conception, pregnant, newly postpartum, and seasoned mothers. Through a variety of group classes (new styles and times to be announced soon!), workshops, seminars, and other opportunities to gather, we are excited to enter this next chapter of the Fit Your Life journey!

Our doors will open very soon and we cannot wait to share this new space with you. We are continually grateful for your love, support, and encouragement!

Thank you for an amazing three years of learning, growth, and pursuing dreams! I feel like we are still just getting started.

Pelvic Health Series: Our journey to regaining strength, alignment, and function Kellie - part 1

photo by Roughley Originals Every single one of us is different. One of the most amazing aspects of my job is to witness the vast differences between each pregnant body as they exercise and how their body transforms postpartum. Most women will have similarities between their own pregnancies and births. Many women can even find a few similarities with other women as they discuss their stories. I think you would be hard pressed to find two stories more similar than mine and Jamie’s are, which is truly incredible, as we have only known each other for 18 months. That being said, they are not identical stories and for that reason I will also be sharing my story of regaining strength, alignment, and function through the help, expertise, and guidance of a pelvic health physical therapist. photo by Roughley Originals After one miscarriage, my husband and I went on to have two healthy pregnancies. Our oldest daughter Brooke was born by urgent cesarean section in April 2014. ...
